Eating Out Time

Josh has no appetite for anything these days. Only few items that he choose to eat.
The worse one happen on Sunday -27May2012.
I guess his molar tooth is on the way to pop up. No wonder he start to put his hand into his mouth.
Therefore I think to have a lunch outside, may be his appetite will be back.
But hey, he used to ate a lot, but now he only have few spoon of rice *sigh*.

Now, still related to this topic. When I let Josh taste the outside food?
I guess it was around August 2011, when Josh was around 1 Year and 2 Months old.
At that time, We having a holidays to Singapore and Josh wasn't ready for eating rice yet.
Therefore, I have prepared to cooked a simple dish for Josh everyday.
But, Josh surprised us.
He rejected my food (I made porridge) and asked us to gave him the rice (he want the similar one with us)
Then we started to choose the food with light taste. We found Salmon rice in Orchard foodcourt, and Josh like it so much. Beside that, we let him taste the Hainam Chicken Rice ( As far as I remember, most of the time he ate this two kind of menu). I boiled egg every day for him, gave him milk as a breakfast and before slept, and buy a fruit and yogurt for his snack to balance the nutrition during the holiday.

Back to Jakarta, I always feed him with home cooking food before we went outside for family dinner or lunch time.
Then I let him have a fruit snack or small bite of our food for him to taste during our eating time.
Now days, when he will be 2years old in the next month, We let him have outside food whenever we have a family dinner or lunch (let him have a small snack first in case the eating time late). It didn't means that we let him eat everything, still have a rules, that No junk food  please as long as I can (Ok, we still ate McD behind Josh, sorry baby *blush*.). Beside, we barely have outside food, cause whenever I'm to lazy to cook, I just came to my mommy house and eat in there *hahaha* (I love my mommy home cooking).

To end this post, below was picture taken after lunch time with my sista in Penang Bistro - Central Park.
(By the time I write this post, Josh appetite slowly back to normal).

There was a time when Rabbit tried to took away the carrot from Josh, then Josh gave a light slap to rabbit. Rabbit run away, and Josh tried to chase him back by offered the carrot.
Below picture just showing how Josh tried to feed the rabbit from one position area to the other :p.

P.S. I prevent him to hug or kiss the rabbit as I didn't know how health the Rabbit was.
Sometime he too close with the Rabbit, therefore I always clean him after play with animal.

Drinking Time

Have you ever face a difficult time to asked your kids drink even for a water?
For me, water is an essential fluid for our body. Therefore, to keep enough water for Josh is one thing for sure I did everyday.

How much should my toddler drink everyday?
Thanks to www.babycenter.com who have this topic (last reviewed December2011).
A child between the ages of one and three needs about 1.3 litres of water a day.
If your child is drinking enough water, his urine will be light coloured or colourless.

Water plays a vital role in how the body works. The body needs water to:
* maintain body temperature by sweating
* remove waste in the urine
* move nutrients throughout the body.

In addition, good hydration helps children to:
*maintain a healthy weight
*improve concentration
* reduce the risk of chronic disease.
It also helps to reduce common problems like constipation and urinary tract infections

More reading: For mommy who start to introduce water for their baby -> Safe drinking water.

After I knew how important water for my kid body, I try to find a way to maintain the water intake for Josh.
One of them is by Playing!

Source of Picture: Wikipedia.
Before Josh was born, me and Daddy often spending our time for drink a tea.
Daddy brought lot of tea leaves and like to serve it on Traditional Chinese way. We have a set of equipment for doing so. More reading: Chinese Tea Culture

One day, I took this out, and bring the clay tea pot and two tea cups. I filled the clay tea pot with water and asked Josh to pour the water into the cups. Then once it filled, I asked him to drink the water.
Before it, we did "Kam Pei" :)
And he did drink a lot of water ^^/ Yeay. He have fun with this activity.
Be prepare for a sweat shirt, that why we did this activity on the floor.
If you just have a plastic pot and cup, go ahead with this activity.

What you get from this activity:
1. Josh drink lot of water
2. Josh learn how to pour enough water into a cups.
3. Josh learn to drink from a tea cup.
4. We have our fun activity time together :).

P.S. If you can do it outdoor, that's will be fun also. We did it on area beside our small garden. Nice to have a green scenery.

Kam pei Mama ^^ even for an empty cup.

Let's pour another glass!

This was one reason of why I landed in Jakarta too (My home town is North Sumatra).

Anyway, later on mommy will let you learn how to ride the motorcycle Josh. Meanwhile, Just enjoy how your uncle and auntie take you around. ^^

Wondering How will Josh call his brother?

Sometime I can suddenly have an silly idea, including to finding the name for our 2nd child.
Ok, I'm not pregnant and I also didn't plan to have another one in near time :p.

For the girl name, both of us have agreed on the same time when we decide our first son name.
Then I think I need to searched for a boy's name in case my 2nd child is a boy.
From a lot of name I was considered, one of them was Timothy.
I plan to called him "Timo" (the O in Timo sound similar to  No).
Then, other silly idea came out, I want to test out, How it sound if Josh (as a big bro) called his brother "Timo".

Mom and Dad: Josh, please call "Timo"

Josh: Timun (in english: cucumber).

Mom and Dad: *laugh* no Josh, not Timun, but TiiiMooo.

Josh: Timun. Timun.

Mom and Dad: ok ok, let choose the other name.

P.S. It didn't means Josh couldn't pronoun the Timo correctly. The reason why he always called "Timun", just because he felt funny and love to see our laugh reaction. Cause after he called "Timun", he also gave you a grinning smile.

Angry Mom and Little Josh

Now days, who didn't know of Angry Bird which is a famous games among all ages.
Some children also make the Angry Bird as their favorite character on their shirt, shoe, bag, toys, etc.

But how about an Angry Mom? I bet no children will like to be with the angry mom moreover to make as favorite one.

One night in April, when we back home, I was craving for food. Then I remember the Ice cream waffle in the refrigerator. I would like to share it with Daddy. Because the refrigerator was broken made the waffle and ice cream melted, so daddy show no interest on it even not a single mouth try for taste it. I felt rejected.
Yes, this was a small thing and Yes, Sometime I got angry easily with the small little thing like this. So I start a debate with daddy about why he refuse to try it.
I raise my tone voice which I didn't recognized this gave a shock to my lil Josh till he came and hug my feet and started to cry.
I felt guilty after that. I got angry for nothing and cause my son shocked and scared.

Now, couldn't we get angry? was anger wrong?
I have read a book "The Sanctification of Emotion" and I read the chapter related to Anger: "Kemarahan dalam Kesucian" - (translate it as "The Purified Anger").
Anger is an instincts. Anger is the fundamental nature, where sometime we are so quickly on expressing it.

"Allah adalah Tuhan yang tidak mudah marah. Jika Allah, sebagai Pribadi tertinggi, tidak mudah marah, mengapa kita boleh mudah marah?
Mengapa Tuhan Allah tidak mudah marah? Itu berarti Dia bisa marah, tetapi Dia tidak mau sembarangan menyatakan kemarahanNya. Jika Tuhan Allah tidak mudah marah, bagaimana mungkin kita yang merupakan ciptaan yang kecil ini boleh sembarangan marah."

I used the Google translator:
God is the God that is not easily angered. If God, as the highest Trinity, not easily angered, why we can easily angered?
Why did the Lord God is not easily angered? That means He can be angry, but Hdid not want to carelessly express His anger. If God is not easily angered, how can we who are these little creatures may be indiscriminate rage.

I remind my self again, that I shall keep learning not easily angered, and if I have too, then I shall learn when is the right time and how to express it in a correct way.

My lil Josh was very sensitive with how I express my emotion.
One day, I want to teach Josh about word of emotion. I did some expression.
I start to Smile and let him know this kind of expression means Smile.
I start to Laugh and let him know this kind of expression means Laugh.
I start to have a serious talk and let him know this kind of expression means I mean it :). He started to look unhappy.
Later on I start to Cry and let him know this kind of expression means Cry. He started to cry with me also.
I just got it that he was thinking that I'm really serious, not on the pretending game. I hug him and told him that mama just pretend to do it, but he didn't understand it.
A lil example showed me how I must be really careful on expressing my emotion and how to communicate with Josh.

P.S. The book titled in Indonesian: Pengudusan Emosi - Pdt. Stephen Tong. Penerbit Momentum.
This is a very good book, please read it.

New Stuff in the Garden

What make watering garden funnier than before?

Garden Spray!

As Josh love to watched the water fountain, I think to buy garden spray which could burst out and give fountain effect.
I found it on Ace hardware and cost you about IDR 50.000 (around 5USD). Worth enough to have one in home.

Early in the morning around 7am, when everyone awake, I put on our garden, and for the first time Josh was confuse why there was a small fountain in our garden.

The next day, he beg me for playing the burst burst (- means fountain) with him.

Injured in Factory

Tuesday,we went to factory with Daddy.
Josh was very happy and run all over the factory. He even tried to catch a cat.
I told him not to hurry and run in a correct way, but he seem never understand it when he was too excited.
No wonder if he fall down. But what hurt me was because he got his first scratch near the elbow.
It was hurt, and he was a little bit shock and tears ready to drop.
Actually I could let him cry out loud, but instead of doing so, I said to him "Don't cry, just learn not to hurry next time" and make his tears didn't burst out. I want him to learn something from this also.
I put the Betadine and hope the scratch soon disappear.
When this happen, I didn't let him take a shower too long, otherwise the injury will get wet all the time and hard to cure.
Condition of his hand the day after.

What we did on Mother Days?

We went to Sunday School and Teacher asked every children to gave their Mommy present (a comb - provided by the Teacher), gave a Hug and Kiss.
Josh followed the order, Love it :).

When the Sunday School time over, Josh asked me to accompany him entered the Sunday Worship Auditorium. Then he sit on the last row for 30 minutes more. And just before the Worship started, he willing to follow us out. Didn't know what he was thinking. Anyway, hope this was a good indication that he could sit nicely to accompany us during the Sunday Service in the future and on his first school year.

Dear Josh,
Mom and Dad love you.

Activity with Toddler - Making a Rocket - Toilet Paper Roll Craft

I try to used the toilet paper roll for the first time.
Think of making something for boys, then I decided to gave a try for Rocket ^_^

What we need:
1. Toilet Paper Roll.
2. Unused hard paper for the cone and bottom of the rocket.
3. Paint and brush
4. Some available sticker (or Cut some shape on fancy paper and stick into the rocket)

Here what we do:
1. I have prepare the cone and the bottom for the rocket.
2. I let Josh brush the Toilet Paper Roll and let it dry.

3. Let him stamp the sticker on the rocket cone and body.

And Tradaaaaa...  Hope it was not too bad for first trial. Will do another toilet paper craft ^^
I used a "stick it note" for sticking the rocket to window.

I let Josh stamp the mickey (his favorite) on the rocket.

Moment of the Week

First, To saw how my lil Josh feed the Bunny. Tuesday, after nap time, I took him for afternoon walk. As usual, we went to saw the chicken, goose, etc. Josh bring carrot with him, therefore I kept wait till the bunny appears.
Once he saw the bunny, with no hesitance and fear, he walk inside the fence and feed the bunny. Instead, Josh laugh when the bunny mustache tickle his hand. Josh was very enthusiastic on feeding the bunny, and I think the bunny felt hurried. So once the carrot slip from Josh's hand, the bunny quickly took it and went to a safety place where Josh couldn't catch him *hahaha*.

Second, The baby sleeping style last longer than I thought. Thursday night, when we ready to slept, he clung to my side. Daddy wasn't arrived yet. Josh suddenly gave me a kiss on my lips, several time. He listened when I told him a story. I could saw in the dark that his eyes starred at me all the time.
When my son did this to me, my heart melted.

Josh felt what I felt... Did He?

I was outside the room, and when I opened the bed room door, Josh looked like waiting for me and called me "mama".
I hug him and start to told calvin the reason why I felt deeply hard to neglect his call.
Back to year ago, I read a story of a mommy who busy on work. One day her son asked her to bath together, however she was to busy to done that. Till one day the son was ill and dead, the mother felt a deep regret for never do what his son request. Despite this was true story of not, this remind me that we never know when our time will end. Don't take it for granted. Whatever we have right now, we shall treasure it and give thanks to God. And when it's time come to an end, don't live on regret cause we have try to give our best before.

Suddenly Josh became quiet. When we put him on bed to sleep, he refuse it. He hug daddy tightly. Daddy asked him to speak some word before sleep like he usually did. But somehow, his voice swallowed by the dark night. He didn't smile or laugh when we teased him. I took him away from daddy, he turn to hug me tightly. Seem want to showed he couldn't loosing us.
Then I tried to put him on the bed and massage him like I usually did. Weird, he refuse it and cry and said "no, no, I didn't want" and came to hug me.
He just want to sleep with me hug him and he lay his head on my shoulder. When I thought he has fall asleep and tried to lay him on bed, he awake and cry and asked me to carry him again and he clung into me.
He almost 2 years old but he act like he just a baby and need mommy to carry him. He asked me to swing him also and yeah carry 12kg toddler for 30minutes, pretty sure my arm stiffed.
Usually I refuse this kind of act, I will consistently ask him to sleep beside me on bed, no carry, no swing, just massage and lullaby song.
But the situation looked unusual, made me tried to be flexible and think positively that my toddler still want to sleep on my arm.

At the end, I'm really curious, does Josh got the senses from what I told to daddy, so he act like he won't loose mommy or daddy even for a minute. A word spell out gave a lot of impact than we thought. Whatever happen, what I knew, I have got the longest hug from my son and I felt blessed and hope he felt the same..
Love u baby.

I nap on my own bed

I think I'm a mommy who fail on letting her son slept on his own bed.
Josh's Grandma gave a baby crib as a present for the new born.
When the first time I got it, I felt my dream come true, the baby crib was the one I wish to have. Look really nice and comfy.
Then I swear I will used it for laying my baby to sleep.

The truth? I was only using it for the first 2 months (when Josh was bottle feed and taken care by my mom - read the previous post - Aku dan ASI). The rest, he slept with us. Then the beautiful baby crib was only used for playing area and changing area. *sigh*.

Why end up like this? For new parent like me, I was on the excitement for having at least the best stuff that I could afford for my first new born. I wasn't thinking further of the usage.
When I committed to the breastfeeding, I didn't think that a separate bed from the baby was inefficient and very tiring for me. Therefore, I let Josh slept with us.
Really thanks to Daddy who has been so patient with us.

But Josh was stop breastfeeding now. I think to move him to his own bed. At least start from the nap time.
I'm too afraid on trying this before, cause whenever he notice that he slept on the other bed, he will cry and refuse to sleep again. That means his nap time was distracted and I have to adjust the daily schedule and my "me time" was cut off.
Again, if I never tried, then I never knew when he is ready. So, on 1st of May, I did try it and he could slept on the baby crib for 2.5hours. *Yataaa*
Even I felt , still far to go for him to slept on his own room, at least this showed me a hope :).

P.S. Daddy and Mommy love you Josh. We knew that someday you might be ready for your own room. But now, we just enjoy our sleeping time together.

Grandpa Birthday

Yesterday was Grandpa Birthday.
We went for Dinner and have a great talk during the night.
Josh was fully cooperative.
He repeated our words, and laugh as if he understood what we were talking about.
He ate Sea Cucumber for the first time and quiet surprise if he like it.

Big bro and 2nd bro were single that night :p.

P.S. The most expensive bill paid for the night (for my level of course - stay at home mommy :p).

I Love Ball

Taken - 2 May 2012
Josh was tired. He lay his head down on the Basket Ball.
My Mommy watched that and requested me to take a shoot with my camera.
Once Josh saw me hold the camera, he can't refuse to gave his smile.

Activity with Toddler - Scratch on the Paper

Sometime, I watched Disney channel with Josh.
His favorite was OSO or Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.
One day, OSO help a girl to made a personal card. They use a leaf , paper and crayon.
Inspired from OSO and I found this was interesting, therefore I used this idea to have another art activity time with Josh.

What you need:
1. Leaf - Choose the leaf where you could feel the stem. (I used the one pinched by Josh - see previous post)
2. Crayon - I used 4 crayons with different colors
3. Unused paper
Josh confused! Hmmm what mommy want me to do yah?

You need 3 special steps to accomplished the activity (you can sing like OSO):
Step 1: Put the Leaf under the paper
Step 2: Choose the crayon that you like.
Step 3: Roll or scratch the crayon on the paper (You can see the leaf shape appears on the paper)
You can repeat several time.

Since Josh couldn't really roll or scratch in order, I hold his hand and teach him how to.
Love how the leaf appears on the paper.
Will definitely repeat the activity sometime in the future.

Pinch the Veggie

Yesterday, Josh went to Grandma house. As Grandma want to cook the "daun ubi rambat" (Sweet potato leaf), Josh gave a try to pinch the vegetable. Here was the picture series of his action when pinch the leaf.
