It was a Celengan - Piggy Bank or Money Box with strawberry shortcake character.
I know I know, the character might not suitable for boy.
Hey do you know why it's called Celengan in Indonesia?
On below site explained to us that on the Majapahit Era (Kingdom era in Indonesia), there was no bank institution (of course :p), people save on an artifact with figure of wild animal. One of wild animal mostly used was Boar - Babi Hutan - Celeng. Since then, we called it Celengan, even the character was not Celeng anymore :).
Click here http://arkeologi.web.id/articles/arkeologi-klasik/1656-celengan-dari-segala-bangsaI start to think what I can do with this stuff.
I came out with the idea, how about if I give josh one coin (@1000IDR) each day and asked him to save this money on the Money Box.
I continue with an explanation that only when the Money Box is full, then I can open it for you. Later on, I will explain him more about the meaning of saving, why we need to save, etc.
I started this activity on 19 November2011 - Josh was about to reach his 17months old. This became our daily activity now.
Whenever he saw me with the coin on my hand, he will used his both hand, asked me for it.
Then he will drop the coin inside.
Funny!, when he know he can't take back once he drop it, he start to spent quite long time on this activity, pretend to drop it, but then postpone it. Till he feel okay, he will drop the coin inside. :p
1. Ensure he/she understand the coin was not for eating. (I start with Josh when he understand some of things is not for eat).
2. Wash their hand every time we finish with the activity.
Have fun!

Hi Renny, thanks for leaving comment yah :).
ReplyDeleteJosh mash kira itu main2 ketimbang nabung hehehe. Anyway, make sure these two things before you start it:
1. Matt already start to understand that coin is not for eating. ( I start with Josh when he was around to reach his 17 months, and he do understand that some of things are not for eat, including the coin.
2. Wash his hand every time you finish the activity.
Have fun :).
